Ban Full Faced Veils ?
It must be a really slow day for the BBC to bring up the full face veil subject again. I don’t directly agree with those that do were the full faced veils, I mean it’s not a specific requirement in the Koran. But just what are the reasons for wanting to ban them in the first place:
1-"It is a direct challenge to the British way of life".
Fortunately, the "British Way of Life" is based on democracy, freedom and tolerance. Passing legislation on who can wear what where is not only a direct challenge to the "British Way of Life" but a pretty big step towards the “Saudi one”.
2-"A ban can be justified on grounds of security ".
Out of interest, if a ban is to be justified on grounds of security, has anyone actually surveyed the number of crimes (violent or otherwise) that are committed by women wearing veils? If such a survey were to reveal that a greater number of crimes are committed by men wearing suits, should we not start by banning suits?
3-"You feel intimidated, ground for oppression, offensive and demeaning"-Take your pick.
Maybe we should ban skimpy clothes as it "objectifies women"? Maybe we should ban hip hop clothing because the people who wear it make others feel intimidated? Maybe we should also ban punk clothes and head-toe-piercing.
A ban in certain places like banks, courts, hospitals, airports and schools is understandable and is common sense. But an outright ban is stupid, unless people also want to ban beards, hats, hoods, sunglasses, umbrellas and every other possible face obstruction. Or is it that people just fear what they don't understand in Islam and wish to 'normalise' it?
Muslim bashing is fast becoming a national sport here, who knows it might even be included in time for the 2012 Olympics in London.
I personally think this is all about people's hang ups with Islam.
Ironically though more Muslim women are now wearing veils in retaliation to this. Brilliant, huh?

I think Britain feels threatened by the amount of muslim & asian people living there now. In another 20 years or so, the 'original' population will be the minority. The veil issue is just beginning. The real issue is that they made a mistake and now don't want them in the UK anymore.
Why shouldn't Britain be allowed to impose its own rules anyway, plenty of other countries do.
Watch the BNP votes drastically rise this year - alot of people feel the same way.
Anon,
In reply to your questions:
1-"Why shouldn't Britain be allowed to impose its own rules anyway, plenty of other countries do" because of democracy, freedom and tolerance!
2-"In another 20 years or so, the 'original' population will be the minority". Any quotes or references on this. Currently the total UK population is approx 59 million with only 1.6 million muslims (thats less than 2.8%).
1. Exactly, it's OUR "democracy, freedom and tolerance" - OUR choice.
2. You only need to look around to see that whole cities are being taken over. Our national average of having kids is now about 1.9 (no longer 2.4). I'm not sure about other communities, but i'm guessing somewhere around 6? You do the math!
OUR? who is this "our"? Are you saying BRITISH Muslims have no say in this "our society"?
Cities taken over? Why use such hostile words? No one has taken over anything. Everyone knows that the majority of Muslims in the big cities such as Birmingham and Sheffield are there because of the needed steel, cleaning, manufacturing labourors / industries from the 50's and 60's. Prior to that I believe most were working on the ports, such as Bristol and Liverpool.
"now about 1.9 (no longer 2.4). I'm not sure about other communities, but i'm guessing somewhere around 6? You do the math!"
Even though this is a fictional figure that you are providing us with (probably from "The Sun" or "Daily Mail" newspaper) I will do the maths for you.
58mill = 58m * 1.9birthrate = 110.2 *20yrs = 2200
1.6= 1.6 *6birthrate = 9.6 *20yrs = 192 => which is still 8.7% of the population.
Believe me if I were you I'd be more afraid of the immigrants coming from the EU were nearly 400,000 Polish people have immigrated in the last few years only!
This my friend is what is called discrimination at its best!
Religious Muslim leaders are writing to uk councellors today regarding christmas celebrations. They want it banned because they feel it isn't politically correct and offends other religions.
We are a Christian country and should take every opportunity to highlight out beliefs.
Once you ban christmas, easter etc. will soon follow. Why should we be expected to give up our beliefs?
Why is it that we are expected to change our way of life and bow to everyone else?
How can it be right when muslim leaders so openly question our beliefs and rights and call for such bans but when we mention anything slightly critical of their culture it is branded as racist?
Anon,
I am even not sure if you are the same one debating with me or a different person.
You have not acknowledged any of my facts from my previous comments.
We have now branched a little off topic but I'll continue.
I totally disagree with the banning of x-mas, easter, crosses, baba black sheep songs, piggy banks and so on. I have yet to find out which Muslim counselor(s) are/is responsible for this because they don't represent me at all, whether its actually a Muslim Counselor that are resposible for this is a different topic altogether because I am not even sure of this. I hope this point is clear and that I am with you on this.
Another point, is I am not against Christain, Jewish or any form of religion. Christainity originated from the Middle East and we have alot of respect for them. They are mentioned in our Koran as the people of the book many times and contrary to what you hear, we do not hate you!!!
As far as my knowledge goes I know that this country(UK) isn't governed by Christians and that religion no longer has any place in legislation. I for one do not want to live in a Christian legistlated society any more than a Muslim, Taoist, Jewish or any other.
hmm to say that niqab is a security threat is absurd! mind you, I tell the people that wanna wear niqab in a non-muslim country that it's absurd (to a lesser extent). When in Rome do as the Romans do. One can be a muslim and not cover one's face totally.
I must admit, the issue of the veil doesn't bother me. Why should it? It is a personal choice and if someone has been wearing it all their life, I would imagine it to be quite daunting without it.
However, I do remember reading an article a few months back about a new islamic school opening in Leicester next year which is allowing 10% of pupils from other faiths to attend. The school insists it's non muslim girl pupils will wear the muslim veil.
Now then, muslim girls which go to non muslim schools in the UK insist that they must wear the veil/headscarf - as far as I know, they do and that's fair enough. But doesn't that have to work both ways??
